Mark Reynolds is a UK-based artist who draws pop-culture pictures. Recently he has designed a couple of prints based on the new Placebo single Surrounded By Spies. Many thanks to Mark for this comment about the band's music in his life and creating these art prints!

Анастасия Логинова: Марк, вы слушали музыку Placebo раньше? Когда вы послушали группу в первый раз?

Марк Рейнольдс: Да, я слушал! Я поклонник группы уже много лет. Кстати, они были одной из первых групп, которую я увидел вживую, когда был тур в поддержку их дебютного альбома. Мне тогда было 15, поэтому тот альбом очень откликнулся мне, проживающему переживания и тревожность, которые ты чувствуешь в этом возрасте.

Анастасия Логинова: Какие у вас были первые впечатления от песни Surrounded By Spies? Вы сделали эти принты вместе с группой? Или группа увидела законченную работу?

Марк Рейнольдс: Интересно, что эта работа была завершена за пару месяцев до релиза сингла, поэтому я не слышал его до этого момента. Я был приятно взволновал, как и любой другой поклонник! Коллектив менеджмента Placebo заранее отправил мне текст песни, чтобы я мог вдохновиться им. Мне было очень приятно, потому что, как оказалось, рисунок передал атмосферу песни. Что касается работы с самой группой – я не работал с ними напрямую, но получил от них обратную связь по ходу работы, и Брайан предоставил текст, который располагается внизу принтов. Работать с ними было прекрасно, и, главным образом, они предоставили мне полную творческую свободу. Это было замечательно с их стороны. Это то, что бывает не так часто.

Anastasiya Loginova: Mark, have you listened to Placebo's music before? When did you listen to the band for the first time?

Mark Reynolds: I have! I've been a fan for many years now. They were actually one of the first bands I ever saw live, back on the tour in support of their debut album. I was 15 at the time and so that album really connected with me and all the usual sort of stresses and anxieties you tend to feel at that age.

Anastasiya Loginova: What were your first impressions of the song Surrounded by Spies? Did you make these art prints in a collaboration with the band? Or did the band see the completed work?

Mark Reynolds: Interestingly the artwork I did was completed a couple of months before the single was released, so I hadn't heard it until later. I was as excited to hear it as everyone else! Placebo's management team did send me the lyrics ahead of time so that I was able to use those as inspiration and I was pleased that the artwork seemed to fit the atmosphere of the song. As for working with the band themselves – I didn't directly, but I got feedback from them as we went along and Brian provided the credits that appear at the bottom of the prints. They were fantastic to work with though and basically gave me complete creative freedom. That was really great of them to do and it isn't something you get often.
